GRAMMAR Past simple: be positive, negative and questions (A1 Beginner)

Part 1: Positive

Positive (+)
I / you / he / she / itI was in Cartagena yesterday
You were in Puebla yesterday
He/She was in New York yesterday
It was fun.
we / you / theyWe were in Lima fast weekend.
You were in Moscow last weekend.
They were in Cambridge last weekend.

She was in Barcelona yesterday NOT She is in Barcelona yesterday.
OR She were in Barcelona yesterday.

Tip
We often use past forms of be with past time expressions like yesterday, fast night, two days ago, on Saturday, this morning.

Part 2: Negative and questions

Negative (-)
I / you / he / she / itI wasn’t in Cartagena yesterday
You weren’t in Puebla yesterday
He/She wasn’t in New York yesterday
It wasn’t fun.
we / you / theyWe weren’t in Lima fast weekend.
You weren’t in Moscow last weekend.

I wasn’t at home yesterday NOT I‘m not at home yesterday.
OR I not was home yesterday.

Tip
I was not in Santiago yesterday → I wasn’t in Santiago yesterday.
You were not in Mexico City yesterday → You weren’t in Mexico City yesterday
